Had problems with this MD when a fellow at Calgary Rheum Clinic. Went in with arthritis symptoms but he called it Perforomis Syndrome and sent me to physio. After physio i eventually went back for continuing RA symptoms but he said i was in wrong place so dont come back. In AB arthritis treatment is taken away from family MD so i had no place left to go.

Horrible, unprofessional, and rude specialist. Whenever I mentioned that a previous doctor disagreed with something he said he would say they were “stupid” or “bullshitting [me]”. He would only give me iron supplements even though multiple doctors and a pharmacist said my iron levels weren’t low enough to be causing my issues. I told him my issues and pain were ruining my life and he didn’t care. He said to have my doctor send me back in 6 months if I still have issues after taking the iron, despite diagnosing me with fibromyalgia and then refusing to treat me. He said “talk to your doctor” about treatments and was clear he wanted nothing to do with helping me. He knows nothing about spondyloarthritis and seemed confused when I asked a few questions about it and still refused to consider it even though I am HLA-B27 positive. He also said my joint swelling was from fibromyalgia, which doesn’t cause swelling. He said it’s “rare” and that’s the main reason why he won’t consider it. The more questions I asked the more angry he seemed to become.

“First, do no harm” is a phrase this doctor seems to not care about. He seems to care about nothing beyond his own ego. I have reported him to the board of physicians. DO NOT GO to this rheumatologist. Stay away.

Doctor Gong was very professional and followed up with phone calls. I was very happy with the treatment.

First appointment with this Jeff gong was on the phone to which he was extremely rude and condescending. I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis 7 years ago and after one phone appointment he said after quite a few questions that I didn’t have either of those I had fibromyalgia. So I said what you’re telling me is I can barely move and I’m in excruciating pain all the time just because of fibromyalgia and that I don’t have ankylosing spondylitis or rheumatoid arthritis! He said if I ever did I don’t right now that it’s just in burnout phase. No MRI to confirm whether I’ve gotten worse from the calcification that’s already in my spine and the sclerosis that’s on my SI joints. And when I said that I’d read up on him and this is what he seems to tell all of his ankylosing spondylitis patients he hung up on me. I’m not asking for a miracle I’m not asking for a lot what I am asking for is respect compassion and being treated with dignity. This doctor would not know what any of those are if they slapped him in the face. Worst rheumatologist I’ve ever dealt with in my entire life. I was diagnosed 7 years ago with blood work and MRIs and physical exams.

Poor interpersonal skills! Abrasive and condescending; there is a difference between being concise and time efficient and just being rude.

    ExPATIENT

I am an ex patient of Dr Gong, due to, on his part: medical gaslighting, discriminatory comments, providing contradicting and false medical information, aggressive and unprofessional manner of speaking towards me. Including his crossing of professional/personal boundaries by power calling me up to six times into an evening on a day we did not have a scheduled appointment. (Seemingly to continue the aggressive, gaslighting and condescending talk with no apparent results or purpose of the phone call.)

This unacceptable behaviour did not start with the first appointment, but began after confirmation of my Idacio enrolment and progressed throughout my time as his patient.

I came across these reviews today, and I am beyond shocked that there are patient experiences that are so parallel to mine, down to the most minute details, that I could have written them myself.

As a patient who has been chronically ill and diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis for 25 years, I have had my fair share of medical miss treatment and medical gaslighting, this was some of the very worst.
