My wife and I needed a family doctor for us and our 2 kids. Its impossible to find a family doctor here in GP so we had to bite the bullet and do the 45 minute trip each way every time. At first we found him extremely socially awkward. Didn’t make eye contact, abruptly left the room before all questions could be answered. Spent most of his time with his face buried in his laptop during the visits rather than just speaking with us first. I thought he was kind of a douche bag but the wife insisted it might be a social disorder. As time went on he seemed to become more personable.

I suffer from depression, PTSD, and anxiety from an auto accident. I hit a real wall mentally and it was recommended by my therapist to speak to my family doctor about getting on medication to help get through the rough patch. So I had the discussion with him and he recommended putting me on Venlafaxine (effexor). I was very adamant that I didn’t want to be put on something that would have withdrawal issues (if possible). He assure me that come off of this medication had no side effects whatsoever. When I questioned him on why there were so many people online posting that this medication was hell to come off, I was told “that’s the internet for you”.

So fast forward a few months. The initial dose did nothing so it was increased. That did nothing either so then I was told another increase would be needed. My wife at this time started having issues and needed an appointment however for some reason he was all of a sudden away from the office for a week. Life happens, whatever. 2 weeks before my next appointment to increase once again, I get a letter in the mail. Its to notify us that he is leaving the Hythe practice within 1 week, and that we must get our current prescriptions filled within that week to cover us for the next 3 months. No warning, no explanation. My wife had been waiting the whole time to get in to see him and was never able to over a 3 week period. She then spent the following 7 days after the letter arrived trying to get him to call in her refill prescriptions as we were told we could in the letter. Nope. 7 f****** days of her calling everyday. One of her medications she was complete out of. Meanwhile this guy’s just gone full ghost mode on us and the rest of his patients I’m assuming as well. Finally one of the ladies at reception was able to help after my wife had a breakdown.

Well as for me, I started having some serious complications from the Venlafaxine. So now I’m on a medication i was told was completely safe and withdrawal-free. Wrong. Way wrong. With no other doctors accepting patients in GP, i was forced to come off the medication with no medical supervision. I tapered off as best I could over the next month. Its been almost 4 weeks now and I’m still experiencing brutal withdrawl symptoms which i was told wouldn’t happen Turns out that everyone “on the internet” was right. So not only was I lied to, I was left to fend for myself. Real professional.

I’m not going to throw mud at Hythe Medical. The ladies there were extremely nice and easy to deal with. However, I feel like the doctor just left us in the dust and they did nothing to assist the patients that paid the price. Now this morning I read he has moved to Fairview. That’s cool. So for anyone that might read this in the future when contemplating using him as a GP, i just have to say find someone else. If you can’t, then please be careful. He’s not the worst doctor ever, but trust me when I say that he will leave you hanging and not think twice about it if a more lucrative opportunity comes up for him.

Dr. Elgaoud was our family doctor for about a year. I had several visits with him as I prepared to give birth and also postpartum check ups. Almost every visit was unpleasant in one way or another. The first few visits were stressful simply because I couldn’t understand him very well. He spoke very fast and had a strong accent. He always seemed rushed in our appointments only to go sit in the foyer kicked back and scrolling on his phone. After giving birth at almost every checkup he would make comments about my weight and how “this will help with the weight”… 1. I wasn’t in there asking for help with my weight. And 2. I was at a very healthy weight, eating well and staying very active. So that was uncomfortable and odd. I also needed a Pap smear done which he simply refused to do himself because it made him uncomfortable. I’m not sure why he became a doctor??

I pretty much had the same experience as Jeff N.
He would come into the exam room and would only look at his computer. ( maybe it had a virus) not sure. He would hardly notice if you were in the room or not .and would only hand out prescription. (That he screwed up. on a few occasions lucky enough it was pointed out by the pharmacy).
I think someone should check his doctor degree
Before someone gets hurt by his lack of knowledge and stupidity. Fairview needs doctor’s not quacks. I would avoid him if at all possible
