Dr. Afagh is an exceptional surgeon. I was very happy with the procedure I had done and with all the tests he wanted conducted. His explanations, before and after care were wonderful. Listens carefully and answers all questions. Wonderful personality. I recommend others to go see him!

I can’t speak to Dr. Afagh but I can speak to the service on the clinic.
My husband has a rare and virtually terminal form of cancer. He struggles every day with that and a foot issue that the doctor must operate on. This is an ongoing problem for the last 8 months. The surgery has been cancelled twice. DO you have any idea what that does to a the emotions of a man who can barely walk, and is dealing with all the other issues he has? Shame on you for this horrible mistreatment
I can say too, you desperately need a new receptionist.

    I take it back.
I personally just spoke with the receptionist.
    She was wonderful.
I don’t know how the scheduling works.I don’t understand cancellations. I don’t understand how this can be done to a patient.
    BUT
the receptionist was compassionate and well spoken and I definitely misspoke above.

Dr. Afagh seems like he would be very helpful and thoughtful for people who fall into his bracket of care. That was not the case for me, as my condition ended up not being vascular. I do want to thank Dr. Afagh and Debbie for being both friendly and caring and getting me seen as soon as possible when I was initially referred.

I do have some feedback and I do mean this only as feedback and not as a criticism, because I think everyone is doing the best they can in a challenging time. My experience with Dr. Afagh’s office was that I started adding a task to my calendar to follow up every 3 weeks in order to keep things moving. Each time I called, the office was responsive and friendly. They called me back right away and things would ultimately get booked. My case was being treated as urgent, which I appreciated. The challenge is that when it’s always 3 weeks before a test is booked, then another 3 weeks before you hear that you have to redo a test, then another 3 weeks before the next test is scheduled, and another 3 weeks to find that the doctor never received the test results, and then another 3 weeks before the follow-up is booked, and so on, the time really starts adding up. In the end, I was about 6 months from first consult to last with only 4 weeks of that being between the bookings and the actual tests themselves. Some of this was obviously beyond their office’s control, but I think there is room for improvement.

I don’t think clinical staff have the capacity to run quality control on every step of the process, but I don’t think the patient should have to either. Perhaps there is some kind of automation software or clinical processes that can be adopted to facilitate a proactive approach to bookings and patient communication, to take that burden of manual follow-up off the patient and the staff, and to ensure errors in the chain are caught earlier. Obviously it would be ideal if tests were always done correctly, results were always sent, and diagnostic imaging departments returned calls, but unfortunately that just isn’t the reality.

From a patient’s perspective, it’s not just months of delayed care, loss of income, and diminished quality of life; it’s putting your whole family’s future on hold as you wait. I know that providers understand this, but I just want to reiterate that every single delay that can be avoided with some kind of automation, software, or process change would go a long way in benefitting patients’ physical and mental health.

Dr Afagh and his team (Debbie and Sarah) handled my father’s sensitive medical needs last year in 2022. They were simply fabulous! Compassionate, caring, comforting. It was a very hard road for my father, at age 86, to be in need of surgery alongside other heart and health related conditions. Dr Afagh and/or his assistants were there daily for over a month of my father’s in-hospital care. On one occasion, I watched Dr Afagh personally change my father’s dressings in hospital when a nurse asked if he would mind having a young med student watch. Dr Afagh introduced himself to the student humbly and simply, using his first name only (and not even with the title of “Doctor”), immediately bringing the young med student to ease. As Dr Afagh talked through how he was dressing the wound, he stressed to the student that, dressing an amputation properly required one to do it often and with much practice… “You have to know the patient’s demeanour and specific comfort level” he suggested, with regards to how tightly to wind bandages etc. “Those things you can’t learn from books.” he said with calm and polite wisdom. What mentorship to a young medical student and what incredible, old-school bedside manner! His nurse practitioner at the time (Sarah) was phenomenal as well. Poised, patient, precise… Can’t thank them enough for all they did to see to my father’s comfort and safety. If Dr Afagh is your surgeon, you are in wonderful hands.
