• 10 February 2021I had two appointments with Dr. Zafar, one in September and the follow up in November 2020. I had covid-19 but received a false negative test. I have had LongCovid for five months when I first say this doctor, which was the first referral I could get since getting severely ill.
She was extremely dismissive of my symptoms. I reported extreme fatigue and exercise intolerance, and she recommended me to “maybe just try to get some exercise”. She firmly expressed that she can only diagnose what shows in tests, and if my tests showed nothing (super basic screening), she had nothing to diagnose. She was completely unethical in how she recommended HIV testing as part of my pre-screening, ignored my medical history and suggested that some of my symptoms could be due to travel abroad (an assumption that was made based on my race, because I reported no travel in the past 12 months prior to my appointment), she did not explain the tests she ordered (after literally arguing that I needed some screening, something), nor the test results. In the follow up, she didn’t explain the results either, and spent most of the time standing with her arms crossed, demonstrating complete resistance to even listening to me, or providing advice. I asked for simple advice, like diet recommendations, exercise and pacing recommendations, anything that could improve my life quality. Yet this medical professional was immediately convinced that there was nothing to be treated. Her words “I can tell there’s nothing wrong with you just by looking at you.”
All of this happened with very limited time with her, because the appointment and screening is basically run by residents. She does not talk to her patients, just to be combative of her take away from the debriefing she received from the residents.
I cannot overstate how extremely damaging this is for patients that had covid19 who are seeking medical care.
This professional also needs some serious anti-racism and anti-bias training, as interactions with her were filled with microaggressions, including comments on my accent.
If you are in this situation, avoid this MD.
