• 9 February 2022I saw Dr Hecht on November 15 th, 2021, after waiting for six hours at the General Hospital emergency department. I had been dealing with a serious euphemism issue for some time dating back to early July. I woke up that morning with a very red eye and inflamed eye lis . It was so inflamed that I could barely see my eye, let alone see out of it. After first being seen by an intern,. I was then seen by Dr Hetch. Inthiught he was an optomologist but now I see he was just an Emergency doctor. He was rude, very unhelpful showed absolutely no compassion for a woman in her late seventies who was clearly distressed by this prolonged an at that point acute problem in my left eye. His diagnosis was “ inflamed eye lid” , duh, I already knew that. He suggested that I google Blepharitis which I did. He also suggested warm compresses and using water diluted baby shampoo to clean around the eye.
Later I learned from my optician who was now back in the office following their collective work stoppage, that using Baby shampoo is a no-no and is no longer recommended by eye specialists. She told me to use eye drops ( that he neglected to mention) and preservative free wipes around the eye.
After doing this for the next month or two, and there was no significant improvement she got me into see an ophthalmologist at Precision Cornea that specializes in dry eye disease. The situation around my eye continued to worsen,
A few days before this scheduled appointment, I woke up to see a red round ball in the corner of my eye that looked making me look like something from outer space. I sent a photo of the eye to the Precision Cornea asking that my appointment be moved up to that day. They bulged my request and saw me that afternoon. After looking at it and doing some tests she thought that I should see a surgeon ASAP. She sent a photo to Dr Beliveau at the Eye Institute at the General who scheduled a surgery to remove it the next day. Dr Beliveau said that this condition had been festering for months and should have been caught much sooner by anyone who knew anything about eyes. He diagnosed it as Pyogenic Granuloma. He successfully removed the irritant growth and prescribed cold compresses and an ointment to be applied 4x daily inside the lower eye lid. I saw him yesterday and it seems under control . He was excellent,, but au sure cant’t say the same fir Dr Hetch
