Dr. Colin MacLean is in my opinion, an absolute great orthopaedic surgeon (and person in general)! Not only does he have fantastic bedside mannerisms and is therefore easy to communicate with, but more importantly is the fact that he actually listens to your concerns and takes your individual (and unique) problems/pains/struggles into account and consideration when he creates an action plan to help you.

I was very fortunate to be matched up with Dr. MacLean out of my quite desperate attempts to locate and get help from a qualified (and capable) physician, resulting from a failed surgery that was originally performed due to a bad MVA. The previous surgeon was of explicitly no help whatsoever, and with his rather unfortunate holier than thou, cursory, anecdotal, and even dismissive attitude, could very evidently care less about the struggles (and agonizing pain) I was in (and continued having), which at the time of meeting Dr. MacLean had already been ongoing 6 months post incident and resultant surgery. In the end, all of the following turned out to be as a direct result of the work this other surgeon performed (and failed at), in my now completely verified (and justified) opinion…
Without delving into excessive specific details, prior to Dr. MacLean’s surgical re-work magic there was quite literally zero chance of me having an even remote chance towards a successful outcome from the previously performed surgery, plus when coupled with the increased damages, infection, nonstop inflammation, and a host of other complications that were occurring I was left in a terribly dark place with the very real possibility of losing a limb and becoming permanently disabled. Not a great place to be especially when taking into consideration the nonstop and severe pain that accompanied it all and without means to obtain any reasonable relief (medications weren’t enough)…

All I can say now is that I owe my life to this doctor (literally), and will forever be indebted, grateful, and unbelievably appreciative of how he managed to not only fix the existing damage, but for setting me up with the best possible chance at a full recovery (and a decent one at that) when all is said and done. I am only 2 weeks post surgery now, yet I’ve already seen (and feel) significant improvements. Also, while not supposed to yet, I can already put a decent amount of weight on my leg, and with almost all of my previous pain having vanished! Sure, I still have a fair bit of post-operative pain and have significant muscle atrophy due to being unable to manage any physical therapy, activity, or progress for the past half year, but what I’m able to do and how I’m able to manage now, only 2 weeks ago was completely impossible and even unfathomable!

Bottom line is that if you’re ever in the unfortunate circumstance that requires surgical intervention of large bones and/or your hips and knees) and you find yourself in the hands (or rather care) of Dr. MacLean, don’t worry. He’s got you! Definitely one of the good guys, and rightfully deserving of this praise!!!

Please do not put any faith in the long, obsequious, bogus review by Mike Oxlong. He has published this so-called review under an obviously false name (look it up in Google–it’s an infamous joke name with a rude meaning, or say his name out loud 3 times, and you’ll get it). “Mike” has used every superlative available to describe this doctor, which makes me suspect that he may have a personal relationship to the doctor and is trying to build up a false reputation for a very newly-accredited surgeon (2017) with consequently limited real experience as a surgeon. There is no listing/rating for Dr. Maclean on RateMD, (although there is one for a GP who may be related, a Dr. James MacLean in London), so the ratings on this very website are the only patient ratings that exist for him. Two of the ratings are from the same person, Elizabeth Salm, who is also super incredibly unbelievably positive about this very new doctor. I can’t find any listing for her on Canada411.

The reviews above seem to indicate that Dr. MacLean is a good candidate for Sainthood, or perhaps a Nobel prize in medicine! Just way over-the-top hyperbole. Something a young doctor’s best buddy may have written…

The College of Physicians and surgeons indicate in his listing that he apparently graduated from a Caribbean medical school, Saba University School of Medicine, in 2012. See: https://doctors.cpso.on.ca/DoctorDetails/MacLean-Colin-James/0281328-98424.

My research indicates that Saba may have much lower admission requirements than North American medical schools. See: https://willpeachmd.com/how-hard-is-it-to-get-into-saba-medical-school

Apparently, he did Postgraduate studies at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, Ontario, although his listing includes a disclaimer: “This information may not be a complete record of postgraduate training.”

Although his listing indicates that he is a “RCPSC Specialist”, when I checked the directory at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, he is not listed, and cannot use their official designations of FRCPC, FRCSC or DRCPSC. See: https://rclogin.royalcollege.ca/webcenter/portal/rcdirectory_en

I am not trying to slander this doctor; I’m just trying to add some useful, balanced information here, when there’s not much for new patients of this doctor’s to go on. He may be a very good doctor and an excellent surgeon. I have no connection to him and have not seen him as a patient. I was just performing due diligence research on behalf of one of his patients who is considering him as their own surgeon, and what I discovered has raised some red flags for me. Dr. MacLean is probably aware of this page, and I encourage him to apply to have any bogus reviews removed.

Dr. MacLean: Do you have any former patients with the name of Elizabeth Salm? Mike Oxlong? If not, then take the steps necessary to remove those postings, and try to create a reputation for yourself with real patients, and real reviews. Get real.
